Ghost Town Underground

Many years ago, Jonathan Schwartz a DJ on WINS radio told a story about abandoned subway stations.  Jaffe was inspired and wrote Ghost Town Underground.  He sent it to Schwartz who after prefacing with I never do this read things sent into me but in this case I have to.  He proceeded to read the poem on the air.  It was Jaffe's first poem on the radio.

Press your nose against

the pane and spot life

where it once was

Riding past abandoned

subway stations—

ghost towns underground

Anachronous crowds

appear awaiting the rail

that never arrives

Ghost towns leave

         you behind.
